Bridging the Gap
One of the most hazardous places in the journey to sobriety is that space between the doors of the treatment facility and the rooms of AA. Helping alcoholics through this danger zone is the role of the bridging the gap volunteer.
The volunteer acts as a temporary contact point for the newcomer, taking them to their first few meetings, introducing them to the AA program and AA literature. It is only a temporary role, not a sponsorship role, designed solely to get the newcomer through that shaky beginning period and connected into AA.
